6/8/2017 East Surrey Dance Summer School 2017This year, East Surrey Dance brings you a three day summer school for boys and girls of any ability to come and experience dances from the stage. Whether you'd like to try some real ballet repertoire or West End routines we have something for you. At the end of three fun-packed days, you'll be so fantastic you too will be able to perform on a stage in a small show for family and friends!
Tuesday 29th August - Thursday 31st August 10am-3pm Woldingham Village Hall £85 for 3 days Contact hannah@eastsurreydance.co.uk for more details or click here to confirm your place. 25/6/2017 Bletchingley Village Fair 2017Our group of East Surrey Dancers took part in the annual Bletchingley Village Fair on Sunday 25th June 2017. The performances featured classes from both Bletchingley and Woldingham branches. We had a great time supporting this local community event, as you can see from these photos! Well done to everyone who took part. Exams
We will be running a summer Royal Academy of Dance Ballet exam session. Children from Pre Primary, Primary and Grade 2 at Bletchingley and Primary and some Grade 1s at Woldingham will be invited to take part (if they meet the required age). I will then run a winter session for Woldingham Pre Primarys and Grade 2s and any Grade 3s in Bletchingley, plus any who weren't ready or old enough in the summer. It is not a requirement to take part however. I am waiting to hear back from the RAD re the provisional date but have requested it be on a Saturday/Sunday in late June or early July. The session will take place at Woldingham Village Hall. I would like to invite those wishing to take part in exams to attend a second class, particularly Grades 1 upwards. You are welcome to drop into the classes at the alternative branch and pay by class (please see the timetable here). As there isn't a Grade 1 group currently at Bletchingley, I will add on some classes at Woldingham to act as extra coaching. I would suggest attending 3 - 4 extra classes in order to prepare the children appropriately so they are confident with the syllabus. We will also be able to create practice CDs for them to use at home. I am going to try to organise a day of mock exams to give them all a practice run. This will all be detailed in a separate email to come. Summer School Following on from last year's workshops, I am pleased to announce that we are going to run a 3 day summer school in Woldingham Tuesday 29th August-Thursday 31st August. Children from 4 years upwards from both branches are invited to take part, but if you have a 3 year old who you think would be able to attend please contact me too. It is set to be an exciting few days with dancing, crafts and a show! More details are to follow but please do let me know if you are interested as places will be restricted. Staffing Bletchingley: I would like to welcome a new member of the East Surrey team, Miss Bethany Swales. Miss Bethany is another fantastic graduate of the RAD with their BA (Hons) in Ballet Education and Licentiate Award with experience teaching Ballet, Tap and Modern. She will take over the classes at Bletchingley from April, as we unfortunately have to say goodbye to Miss Amy who is extending her hours within a London based school. We wish her all the best and thank her for two brilliant terms! Miss Bethany will be coming for two weeks at the end of this term to meet the children and yourselves. Woldingham: Please also note that another teacher Miss Ffion Rees from the RAD will be coming to take Miss Jessica's classes this Saturday (25th February), whilst she is involved in a show. Summer Fairs I hope to get some of our dancers performing in local fairs this summer too which I think will be a lovely opportunity. Details to follow soon. Show 2018 Once the two exam sessions are completed, we will begin working towards our very exciting biannual show, which, for the first time, will merge the two schools in a spectacular event! Dates tbc. Please 'like' and follow our Facebook pages for Woldingham and Bletchingley to receive regular news and fun information. Uniform As most of us start to approach the exam sessions, you can check your child's uniform at http://www.eastsurreydance.co.uk/latest/uniform-update Halls Thank you for your support in keeping the halls clean and tidy. Please can I remind you that we are not to leave nappies in the bins. 26/8/2016 2016/2017 TERM DATESEach term has 11 weeks. 22/8/2016 UNIFORM UPDATETo unify the two merging schools, the uniform has been updated with one change per branch.
It is not compulsory for current students to change their uniform, but the new list should be observed when children have outgrown their current kit or move up to a new level and when new children enrol. Please see the list below: east_surrey_dance_uniform_2016.docx To celebrate the return of Darcey Bussell to our screens in Strictly, we're offering a free taster of her new dance exercise class, DDMIX. As you can imagine, we are all massive Strictly Come Dancing fans and are very excited to get a first glimpse of this year's dancers on Saturday 3rd September when the series returns. Since Jay and Aliona were crowned champions, Darcey has been busy promoting her dance workout DDMIX. This brand new exercise craze is a mix of different dance genres, including Flamenco, Tango, Bollywood, 80s, Salsa, Disco, Charleston, Waltz...and lots more. Adults of all abilities can take part so why not give it a go (Craig won't be scoring!) as it is a fun way to try some of the dance styles you see the celebs perform on Strictly each year. Samantha and Hannah were trained by Darcey herself and are among the first DDMIX instructors in the country. Regular DDMIX classes will take place each Saturday during term time in Woldingham between 9.30-10.30am. The free taster class of Darcey Bussell's DDMIX will take place at Woldingham on September 3rd at 9.30-10.30am. Places are limited so reserve yourself a spot by completing the form.
13/7/2016 TEAM TALKGet to know your new teachers with a short Q and A below. Don't forget they're coming to the summer workshops too (details below)!
Miss Jessica - Woldingham 1.What is your favourite ballet or show? My favourite ballet is Serenade by George Balanchine, the music is beautiful and I love the fast paced movements of the dancers! 2.What age did you start dancing? I started dancing when I was three. 3.Who is your dancing idol? I really enjoy watching Lauren Cuthbertson of the Royal Ballet for her academic lines and precision! I also love watching Tiler Peck of NYCB for her quick foot work and athleticism! 4.What was the best costume you've got to wear? I was doing a court dance. I got to wear a beautiful handmade style court dress and we got to use fans in the dance! Miss Samantha - Woldingham 1.What is your favourite ballet or show? My favourite ballet is 'Elite Syncopations'. 2.What age did you start dancing? I started dancing at 3 years old. 3.Who is your dancing idol? My dancing idol is Sylvie Guillem. 4.What was the best costume you've got to wear? My favourite costume was the Sugarplum Fairy, from the Nutcracker. Miss Amy - Bletchingley 1. What is your favourite ballet or show? I enjoy, love and appreciate all genres of dance, so this is a very tricky question indeed. I was lucky enough to see Wayne McGregor’s premiere of “Infra”. It was totally breath taking - both the movement and Max Richter’s score truly moved my soul. I also really enjoyed “An American in Paris” on a recent visit to NYC. Christopher Wheeldon’s choreography was absolutely spot on. 2. What age did you start dancing? I think I was about five. I honestly can’t remember a time when I wasn’t dancing! 3. Who is your dancing idol? Without hesitation; Mikhail Baryshnikov. His artistry, technique and work ethic are unsurpassed. To quote him: “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to to dance better than myself.” 4. What was the best costume you've got to wear? During my work in Kenya, I performed in a maasai tribe costume. It was a lot of fun! I love all the brightly coloured beads. Which new teacher is this? 8/7/2016 Summer Days of Dance!Throughout the summer, we will be running two one day summer schools including lots of fun styles of dance, crafts and a show! It will also be a chance to meet the new teachers, who will be starting in September.
